Nickelodeon, a creative perspective

The Creative Director for Nickelodeon for Latin America, is responsible for the brand identity in the region, and the department he directs is responsible for giving creative solutions to the channels of the Nickelodeon family. Among the projects he’s developed is the launching of the channels Nick Jr. and Nickelodeon HD in Latin America, the implementation of the network’s new image, the development of style guides for the co-productions developed in the region, the artistic supervision of the series produced in Argentina, the creation of pro-social campaigns, the production of pieces for Nickelodeon International, and the production of the first Kids’Choice Awards (KCA) in Argentina.

Caja de Ruidos brings Mario Castañeda, the Latin American voice of Drangon Ball’s Gokú, and the best known dubbing director from Mexico, who will tell us about his work as Dialogues Director in the dubbing of Disney/Pixar’s Cars 2 and Tangled.

This production company, specialized in animation and videogames, will explain the chain of value and production involved in the creation of contents for exporting to all Spanish-speaking audiences, from the audio, music and voicing point of view. In a time when Latin American products are getting more focus in international networks’ timetables, Caja de Ruidos shows how to face the production of music, sound and voices in high-impact animation series, without disregarding cultural idiosyncrasy, achieving international and regional success.

SELKIRK: Stop Motion in the Southern seas

The Animation Director most renowned in Uruguay animation history, a pioneer of stop motion techniques in Latin America, brings us the making of Selkirk, the anticipated stop-motion film about “the real Robinson Crusoe”, a co-production between studios from Uruguay, Chile and Argentina. An absurd group of pirates go on board an English ship to catch the most wanted treasure of the Southern seas. Among them is Alexander Selkirk, a brave and ambitious gambling pirate. While the journey develops, exiting adventures happen, and after troubles of fights and on-board threats, Selkirk is left behind on a desert island, with his will as the only resource for surviving. Day by day, he will try t olive by learning to value the Little things that didn’t mean anything before, meeting new friends, giving a new turn to his destiny.

About International Animation Festival in Japan

Why and how the Hiroshima International Animation Festival was established in 1985, and why we are continuing it till today? The presenter, an independent animation filmmaker and current director of the festival, founded Hiroshima Festival together with Renzo Kinoshita, will talk about the unique story, by showing her own films, which played an essential role in the foundation of the festival. Hiroshima Festival, endorsed by ASIFA (Association Internationale du Film d'Animation), co-organized by the City of Hiroshima and ASIFA-Japan, is well known for its high quality programs and also for its strong policy to best respect/protect filmmakers' viewpoint and position, as organized under the leadership of a filmmaker, continuously for more than a quarter century.

Sayoko Kinoshita is Founder and Festival Director of International Animation Festival in Japan - HIROSHIMA, Vice President of ASIFA, President of ASIFA-Japan.

My Big Big Friend: Brazil, Canada, and the secrets of a winning model

My Big Big Friend is an animation series of 52 episodes of 11 minutes, aired daily on Discovery Kids Latin America, TV Brasil, Treehouse Canada, and in other countries in Europe and Asia. It is a coproduction between 2DLab (Brazil) and Breakthrough Ent. (Canada), based on a short film by Andrés Lieban. It is the show with the highest audience numbers currently on Discovery Kids, still leading the audience choice on cable at the time it´s aired. The brand My Big Big Friend has surpassed the 100 licensed products by 11 manufacturers, including a traveling theme park that has reached to over 12.000 Brazilian kids.

Andrés Lieban is Creative Director and Partner at the animation studio and production house 2DLab, based in Rio de Janeiro. He has worked in animation for 20 years, he’s been granted national and international awards for his series and short films, in festivals such as Anima Mundi, Chicago Film Festival, Divercine, Licensing Challenge/ MipCom Jr. and the Preux Janeusse Iberoamerican.

Filmmaker and Storyteller Billie Mintz will take you through the three act structure of storytelling and how it can be applied to your animated film in order to effectively engage your audience with the message you want to convey. More importantly Mintz will discuss how story and the three act structure applies to your life and with this insight how you can tell important stories by understanding your role in the mythology of your own life.
The role of Story and how it effects our own personal lives and how we can use this technology to tell better stories.
Because regardless of what type of animation or technology you use; the most potent stories come from within.

The Danish production company and animation studio Copenhagen Bombay was created with a special focus on entertainment for children and young people, believing that great stories are the keys to open multi-platform universes, and looking to integrate new technologies and new business partners. The unit Copenhagen Bombay Sales is handling all domestic distribution of Copenhagen Bombay’s projects, including the theatrical releases, and has now released more than 10 dvd-titles, 6 computergames, 9 children’s books and 4 feature length films in the Danish market, and do the international sale of titles such as The Great Bear, an animation adventure feature film which has been awarded and sold to more than 20 territories.

Malene Iversen joined Copenhagen Bombay in 2009, and formed Copenhagen Bombay Sales ApS – the distribution and international sales department of Copenhagen Bombay.

The SMART TV changed the way of watching TV. In the past, a TV set was only for reproducing images and sounds. SMART TV is a new technology that offers a renewed experience for viewers and users. It’s a new tool that allows the distribution of contents in every quality, HD and 3D, to get directly to audiences from the TV set, and it’s a new way of generating business. Its placing in Argentina and the world, explained by Manuel Altman, Contents & Solutions Business Manager for LG.

Expotoons’ Director Rosanna Manfredi, will talk about how the Festival relates to these new technologies, with the goal of broadcasting the Festival’s content along 2012. And how we are preparing for the 6th edition to be broadcasted online, for Argentinean animation TV to reach the world. The strategy for local productions of the Disney Channels Latin America goes beyond the regional limits, generating Disney-quality content for export and offering creative and production services for other Disney Channels around the world. Cecilia Mendonça will talk about the impact this strategy has on the development of Latin American talents in leading, production and technical roles, and its evolution in the last decade.
Cecilia Mendonça is General Manager for Disney Channels Latin America, being responsible of broadening and placing the Company´s brands portfolio, and reaching a greater commitment for offering children and families in Latin America creative content of high quality. Besides leading the local fiction productions, she supervises how Disney channels for Latin America are seen and felt, and she takes care of the brand identity being represented in the screens and contents.
